Penn’s Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC) is seeking Ukrainian speakers for a short term language research project
Are you fluent in Ukrainian with an interest in current events in Ukraine, Russia and the surrounding region? Working as a Ukrainian Language Specialist at the University of Pennsylvania’s Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC) could be the perfect job for you!
Researchers at Penn’s LDC are starting a new project examining conflicting accounts of current events in traditional news and social media sources. Our research is part of a larger effort to build technology that can automatically identify conflicting information in multimedia data.
We are hiring fluent speakers of Ukrainian with an interest in current events in Ukraine, Russia and the surrounding region to help build our research database. You will search for multimedia data (including news, videos and social media) related to current events topics in the region. For a portion of the data you will label linguistic phenomena of interest – for instance, indicating when certain events are mentioned in a written document and depicted in a video about the same topic.
Primary Responsibilities
• Writing brief topic overviews in English for selected events related to Ukraine-Russia relations
• Searching the web for multimedia data related to specified topics
• Labeling features of interest in the selected data
Qualifications/Requirements
• Native speaker fluency in Ukrainian
• Able to read and write detailed reports in English and Ukrainian
• Familiar with current events related to Ukraine-Russia relations
• Able to perform effective web searches in Ukrainian
• Strong analytical skills and good attention to detail
• Able to learn new computer skills with limited support
• Reliable, mature and able to meet established deadlines
• Able to commit at least 15 hours/week
• Access to a reliable computer with a high-speed internet connection
• Eligible to work as an independent contractor for the University of Pennsylvania
Compensation for this project is based on work completed, equivalent to $15/hour with the potential to earn bonuses. Work can be done anywhere and you can set your own working hours.
To apply, send your resume and cover letter, and include the name “Ukrainian Language Specialist – CACE Project” in the subject line.
Company Profile: Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC) is a not-for-profit organization hosted by the University of Pennsylvania that creates and distributes linguistic resources to universities, laboratories, companies and libraries around the world in support of language-related education, research and technology development.
