Technical Writer/Editor
TECHNICAL WRITER/EDITOR (NSWCDD-18-0750-F):
Bowhead is seeking a Technical Writer to prepare, format, proofread, edit, and organize test plans and reports, while ensuring style, format, order, clarity, conciseness, accuracy, and terminology, per the government’s approved conventions or per unique, specific direction from the customer.
Essential functions will include:
• Use and modify various Microsoft Word templates, which include multiple types of form fields and content controls.
• Use populated, internal-use forms and templates to prepare/edit draft test plans and reports and assign test documentation numbers and assist in the maintenance of test documentation logs
• Will interact and collaborate with government and contractor personnel to resolve issues/conflicts and expedite the finalization and delivery of test documentation in order to meet the customers’ needs, with emphasis on pressing test deadlines.
• Will communicate with test personnel about specific documents, obtain signatures of approval from test personnel, track and update the status of test events and associated documentation, maintain the archived library of finalized test plans, and notify the Range Operations Center of test plan completion, as well as other administrative functions.
• High School diploma or GED certificate PLUS three (3) years related experience in writing and technical editing OR Bachelor’s degree in Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, History or Business with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in writing, editing and formatting of technical documentation ensuring it is accurate, complete, and meets editorial and Government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.
• The ability to use MS Office products (mainly Word and Excel, and some PowerPoint) to check, edit, and correct documents.
• A working knowledge of tech editing tools resident within the MS Office Suite.
• A good command of the English language, composition and punctuation in written documentation.
• The ability to communicate effectively with engineers and other technical personnel about explosive and ordnance testing.
• The ability to work independently to deliver products on time.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.

Position Description:
Under the guidance project team members, the Technical Writer duties include management and creation of required business and system documents in adherence to appropriate standards during business or technical writing processes and projects. These documents could include procedures, user manuals, system operation, and recovery instructions, project proposals, newsletters, presentations, and system design documents. Duties also include participation in system design sessions; proofreading and editing of prepared documents; research, assimilation, interpretation, formatting and publishing of information on new tools, systems and materials; the ability to use ingenuity and creative thinking during the preparation of needed documents in an organized, consistent, professional manner; while remaining current in system development methodologies and while remaining compliant with regulations concerning the development of systems and system documents.
Experience Level: 3-6 Years.
Skill Set: Technical writing and end-user documentation experience. User Manuals and On-line help experience.

SUMMARY
Responsible for evaluating and rewriting hospital clients’ ANCC Magnet® application documents to ensure compliance and accuracy. Work requires timely turnarounds in a deadline‐driven environment. The number of individual assignments is periodic, but work is steady. Person will work from home and communicate with Tipton through email and phone.
The ideal candidate would have:
- Nursing experience
- Quality/performance improvement background

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Critically evaluate client narratives to determine if document addresses core requirements of Magnet question.
- Evaluate clients’ data to determine if it meets Magnet requirements.
- If needed, provide comprehensive revision/edit of client narratives and combine with clinical data to create documents demonstrating improved clinical outcomes.
- Provide concise coaching to client relevant to criteria, identify missing content and provide suggested content to ensure document flows easily for reader.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of Magnet requirements and expectations.
- Proofread for grammar and spelling.
- Consult with other freelance writers and staff members to share insights, resolve issues and manage workloads.
