Goal: This  6 points should outline some advice on what to consider about partnering with other firms.

1. Why?  (1 page)
– Precisely define why you run partner management in your firm ….
For example:
– Partner to enable focus
– Partner to reduce costs
– Partner to market access
– Partner for customer access
– Partner to complete solution
– Partner for innovation/differentiation
– Partner to expand sources of revenue
– Partner to expand resources access
– Other…

2. Big names (1 page)
– Partnering with large companies is often a challenge
– These are often difficult to manage
– You only have one contact who has limited influence within the company
– You have no partnership with a company; you have partnerships with people in the company

3. Change of perspective (1 page)
– Many firms treat partnerships like a sales pitch
– Possible partner often explain their product, but is not able to go into the perspectives of the other company.
– How does my solution fit into the portfolio of the other company?
– Bridge must be made, where the solution fits in with the other company.

4. Endurance (1 page)
– Partnering is not a sprint, but an endurance sport
– It is not about how fast you start.
– Trust is created through the same people and through consistent activities.
– It is more difficult to revive failed partnerships than to win new ones.
– Most partnership really start to work after 1 – 2 years.

5. Partner Program (1 page)
– Do you need a partner program?
– You can also manage up to 60 partnerships without a program.
– But that also depends a bit on the product or service that your firm offers

6. Differentiation (1 page)
– When you specialize / differentiate, you automatically do not compete with others.

– 1 page needs to have around 350 words
