Training

## POSITION INFORMATION
Role Summary
The Media & Content Manager leads Alaska Airlines brand journalism program and contributes to its social media and earned media efforts. Through brand journalism, this role drives the development and implementation of strategic owned media objectives for the companys blog. The position contributes employee and business-related content for the companys social media channels, in partnership with the companys marketing team.
This position also serves as a media spokesperson for the company and works with and fosters strong relationships with aviation and travel industry media and influencers. The manager leverages a deep knowledge of brand journalism and social media to further build consumer awareness and understanding of the Alaska business, brand and its people through powerful storytelling.
Scope & Complexity
- This individual contributor role leads and executes on the planning and goal setting across the organization’s external media channels and collaborates with the social marketing and social care teams. In addition, this position individually contributes, crafts and delivers engaging, meaningful owned and social media content for Alaska Air Group (AAG) and subsidiaries. Grows Alaska Airlines relevance and audience through engaging content, thought leadership and storytelling, by building and executing an owned media strategy for the company in partnership with marketing, government affairs and sustainability.
Key Duties
- Leads brand journalism program for Alaska Airlines.
- Identifies company objectives and incorporates innovative brand journalism solutions for the companys owned and social media channels.
- Writes and produces exceptional content for Alaska Airlines? owned communication channels and news outlets.
- Develops, tracks, and manages metrics to grow readership, subscribers, SEO and support communication goals.
- Contributes and helps guide content with owned media channels.
- Possesses a rich understanding of content and social media trends, strategies, platforms and best practices.
- Effectively partners with Marketing and Social Care, and contributes to cross-divisional and enterprise-wide planning and execution of employee and business-related content for the companys social media channels.
- Nurtures and manages a network of bloggers and influencers who contribute to the Alaska Airlines blog.
- Serves as a spokesperson for Alaska Airlines.
- Develops and manages relationships with reporters and industry influencers and bloggers who cover the aviation and travel industry.
- Provides oversight and consultation to business subject matter experts for major announcements and during escalating and/or breaking news situations.
- Serves as a key member of the crisis communications team to ensure Alaska Airlines remains the central source of information during emergencies and irregular operations.
- Builds relationships with destination marketing organizations in key hub markets.
- Interacts with and provides guidance to senior leaders of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.
- Serves on the after-hours media hotline rotation.
- Manages and oversees consumer PR for Alaska Airlines loyalty program.
- Creates and executes innovative programs to increase awareness of Alaska Airlines award winning loyalty program and credit card, in partnership with marketing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
- A minimum of 5 years of experience writing, publishing and managing content.
- A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree.
- A strong background in writing clearly, concisely, creatively and on deadline.
- Expertise publishing content to the Internet
- Exceptional writing and copy editing skills.
- Ability to think strategically, resolve problems, and handle multiple, concurrent tasks independently.
- Remains calm under pressure and communicate effectively under deadlines, breaking news, changing news and competing priorities.
- Ability to build strong relationships and influence without authority.
- A solid sense of initiative and drive, a bias toward action, and a passion for getting it right.
