Human Interest Writer

We’re looking for writers to find, pitch, and write engaging human interest stories with viral potential. These are stories that will inspire, uplift, and inform.

The ideal candidate:

– Has a keen sense of which human interest stories have viral appeal

– Is a strong writer and capable storyteller

– Is an avid reader of stories online (via reddit, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.)

– Understands social media deeply

– Learns and adapts quickly to audience interests

– Is highly adaptable in general, as well as as a writer, i.e flourishes in a changing, startup environment

We do not need to publish what everyone is publishing. We need writers who can quickly zero in on what specific audiences are interested in and on what makes each story special and engaging.

Strong writing ability is an absolute must. Newsroom experience a plus. Must be able to work independently and under strict deadlines.

Responsibilities include:

– Identifying, sourcing, and writing stories on a daily basis

– Adapting to evolving house style and editorial guidelines

We still believe journalism is a noble vocation, but only when it genuinely seeks to serve its communities and help them flourish.
